After a brief break in the rain for most of Acadiana on Sunday widespread scattered showers and storms will return Monday and Tuesday afternoon.
However, it will still be another hot and humid morning on Monday as we will have a fair amount of sunshine pushing temperatures into the lower 90s with heat indices reaching 103-107.
Best chance for showers on Monday will be between noon and 6PM.
Tuesday looks to have a slightly higher chance(60%) for scattered showers and storms as we will have a little more energy in the atmosphere.
Showers could begin as early as 10AM on Tuesday and last through the evening.
With any of these showers/storms gusty winds and rumbles of thunder and lightning will be possible along with rounds of heavy downpours which could lead to some minor flash flooding of roadways and poor drainage areas.
For the second half of the week rain chances will fall about 10% each afternoon going from 40% on Wednesday to just 20% by Friday as an area of high pressure will gradually build over the region stabilizing the atmosphere.
As the shower activity fades that will allow for more sunshine to peak through the clouds scorching Acadiana as highs will soar into the mid 90s each afternoon with feel like temperatures topping out between 105-109.
So for people having to work out in this heat make sure you are taking frequent breaks, drinking plenty of water and wearing hats and loose fitting clothes to try to stay cool.
In the tropics Tropical Storm Gert has formed in the Atlantic.
Gert has sustained winds of 40mph and gusts up to 50mph.
The good news for the United States is that Gert is moving off to the N/NW at 10mph and should remain well off shore and out over the ocean.
However, the beaches of the Carolina and Virginia could experience some rough seas and rip currents as Gert rides up along the coast this week.
Now Gert is expected to strengthen slightly in the coming days with winds maxing out near 65mph by Tuesday afternoon before beginning to weaken as it moves into the cooler waters in the north Atlantic..
