MUNCIE, Ind. – A Muncie man is accused of slapping his three-year-old daughter in the face and then punching the girl’s mother – who is seven months pregnant – in the stomach.
Dakota Scott Dudelston, 21, of the 1500 block of West Kilgore Avenue, was charged Friday with domestic battery resulting in injury to a pregnant female, battery on a person under the age of 14 and interference with the reporting of a crime.
According to court documents, city police were called to a report of a disturbance at a home in the 2500 block of North Elgin Street on April 9 and found a tearful Dudelston, who said “he did not mean to hit his daughter as hard as he did.”
An officer wrote the girl began crying as her parents argued. Dudletson then “smacked (the child) in the face with an open hand,” he added.
Dudelston’s spouse said he then took the battery out of her cellphone so she could not call police, and “punched her with a closed fist in the stomach.”
The pregnant woman was taken by ambulance to IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital. Her daughter was treated at the scene.
Dudelston continued to be held in the Delaware County jail on Monday under a $20,000 bond. He received a June 18 trial date on Monday in Delaware Circuit Court 1.
The Muncie man has been convicted of theft and resisting law enforcement (twice each), and possession of marijuana.
