Earlier this year, the Michigan Court of Appeals ruled that individuals on probation can use medical cannabis as long as they are conforming with the Michigan Medical Marihuana Act.
After serving more than three years behind bars for consuming cannabis while on parole, Ann Arbor resident Jason Szymanski was freed from prison earlier this month.
Szymanski was originally imprisoned in 2012 for receiving and concealing stolen property, according to court documents. In 2014, he was placed on parole for 24 months, which was extended into 2018 following violations “related to his possessing and using marijuana.”
