I am so happy to hear that the medical marijuana bill has not been passed.
This has been a controversial issue that has been debated for quite a long time. More states are starting to allow medical marijuana, but I believe we have made the right decision to not allow it in hospitals. As stated in the Feb. 19 Forum article, “House kills marijuana bill” by Mike Nowatzki, the bill failed 26-67. It is nice to see most North Dakotans have their heads on straight about medical marijuana.
There will always be the problem of the marijuana ending up in the wrong hands. I believe if people begin to use it for medicinal purposes, it will be more difficult to find those people who are legally allowed to have marijuana and those who shouldn’t have it. In Nowatzki’s article, Rep. Robin Weisz, R.-Hurdsfield, worded it perfectly when he stated “the problem is the state has no ability to control, regulate and have the quality control that’s necessary.”
I also agree with Rep. Dwight Kiefert, R-Valley City, who declared, “there was no hard evidence that marijuana has medical benefits.” With no specific proof of this medication’s benefits, there can be other factors which could be improving the symptoms.
