Shangri-La Dispensaries will host a grand opening celebration Friday at its first Columbia location, 3919 Peachtree Dr.
The celebration takes place 3-6 p.m. at the second of the mid-Missouri company’s three medical marijuana dispensaries to open. The Jefferson City dispensary at 2118 Missouri Blvd. opened in March. Shangri-La’s Columbia Super Store, at 1401 Creekwood Parkway, opens later this summer. More information, including directions to the store, can be found at https://shangriladispensaries.com.
Nearly 120,000 Missouri patients have been approved as medical marijuana cardholders by the state Department of Health and Senior Services. Medical cannabis sales in Missouri include an additional 4% sales tax, with the proceeds dedicated toward veterans’ health and care services.
The department has licensed 349 facilities across the state to cultivate, manufacture, test and dispense medical marijuana safely to Missouri patients. The medical marijuana program, which was approved by 66% of Missouri voters on the November 2018 ballot, has already generated nearly $54 million in tax revenue to the state of Missouri through May.
