LARCHWOOD, Iowa — Nearly a dozen were arrested Saturday at the Grand Falls Casino & Golf Resort parking lot as part of a crackdown on a recent pattern of unlawful behavior on the grounds of the Northwest Iowa casino, the county sheriff said.
The 11 suspects were charged with possession of a controlled substance (marijuana), a serious misdemeanor, and possession of drug paraphernalia, a simple misdemeanor, according to the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office.
Lyon County Sheriff Steward Vander Stoep said the arrests were part of an undercover sting aimed at improving public safety at the rural casino, which is just across the border from South Dakota and about a five-minute drive from Sioux Falls, the state’s largest city.
“Over the last month or so, we just had an increased number of calls to the parking lot over different things going such as a stolen gun last weekend out of a car and we had a fight between a couple of women a few weeks before that,” Vander Stoep said. “It’s just been a little bit of an uptick in activity so we thought we should just make our presence known there once again to just to cool things down and make everybody feel safer…”
The names of those arrested Saturday were: Richard Peter Kress, 56, of Sibley, Iowa; Pamela Mary Kuntz, 53, of Dubuque, Iowa; Javier Trejo Garcia, 35, of Worthington, Minnesota; Heidi Lynn Grahn, 40, of Fulda, Minnesota; Steven Joseph Jandl, 51, of Rock Rapids, Iowa; Yvonne Marie Morissette, 52, of Aberdeen, South Dakota; Shadwell Allen Smith, 25, of Brandon, South Dakota; Landon Jerome Entinger, 25, of Brandon, South Dakota; Jesse Ray Scheetz, 36, of Sioux Falls; Abby Anne Hubbard, 26, of Mitchell, South Dakota; and Wade Forrest Peterson, 40,
